Joseph Imhof (1871-1955) was born in Brooklyn, NY and worked as a lithographer for a time before moving to Europe for formal training as painter and lithographer. He met Buffalo Bill on tour in Europe and became interested in the Native Americans of the Southwest. He moved to Albuquerque in 1905 and Taos in 1929, where he painted the local Pueblo residents and their lives.
