Lee F. Hersch (1896-1953) was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and studied under Henry Keller and Kenyon Cox. He visited Taos in 1918 and perhaps later, where he painted pueblo and Native American scenes. Later he spent time in California and New York, and became part of the Abstract Expressionist movement.
